A culinary expert has revealed the one, surprising ingredient that they believe will take banana bread to another level. Banana bread is a sweet bread made from mixing bananas into the batter paste.

Ideal for incorporating fruit into a bakery treat and for reducing waste in the kitchen, the dish can be made in a variety of ways. Chocolate chips, ginger and even sour cream can be added into the ingredients to modify the taste and texture but according to one culinary expert, there is one fruit that will make your baking “heaven”. Emily Lichty said: “The first switch-up is to add peaches.

“In perfect summer fashion, the addition of this popular warm-weather fruit adds an extra fruity flavour and, I would guess, a lighter texture.

“What shocked me the most about the addition of peaches to this recipe is the fact that they are blended into the recipe and not kept chopped.

“The reasoning behind this is to add a better texture and extra sweetness. But, as many reviewers suggested in the comments, I would probably keep them diced and fold them in to let the extra fruit flavour really shine.

One comment suggested heating the peaches and bananas on the stove first with some apple juice for an extra boost.

“The result is an even sweeter bread that they described as “heavenly.” Call me intrigued.”

Banana bread is a perfect way to use bananas that are turning colour quickly and ensure food does not go to waste.

There is nothing more frustrating than slowly watching the products in the fruit bowl turn a dark colour while feeling powerless to stop it.

When it comes to bananas however, there are a few little-known hacks you can use to increase the lifespan of the popular fruit.

Often, bananas are stored in sub-optimal places such as in a fruit bowl or too close to other fruits, which accelerates the spoiling process.

But using one common kitchen tool could prove a gamechanger in extending the life of the item: clingfilm.

According to a food expert at The Kitchin, simply wrapping the film around the stems, from which bananas release ethylene, helps slow down the ripening process.

The expert, which tried a few ways to make bananas last longer, gave this hack a 8/10 score – performing much higher than the fridge-storing method.
