Linen has long been praised as one of the best choices for bedding, loved for its natural breathability, durability and relaxed lived-in look. It doesn’t come cheap, though, with some premium bedding brands charging upwards of £200 for a set.

High-street retailer Dunelm has introduced an affordable alternative, with prices starting from £90 for its new Linen Bedding Set. Shoppers have already been raving about the latest collection, describing it as ‘gorgeous’ and saying it ‘compares to more expensive sets.’

The duvet cover and matching pillowcases are available in three versatile colours (terracotta, olive green, and beige), allowing them to be easily blended in with existing decor. Moreover, the sheets are designed to become softer with every wash, while keeping shoppers cool in summer and warm in winter. 

As mentioned, the sheets are versatile enough for most bedroom setups. For a truly cosy vibe, pair it with a chunky knit throw and scatter cushions in warm, inviting hues. A candle or two wouldn’t go amiss, too, for nights when snuggling up with a good book feels like a necessity.  

Of course, Dunelm isn’t the only retailer with quality sheets. As a shopping writer, I’ve tried my fair share of bedding, and I always circle back to one brand: Piglet in Bed.

Yes, these sheets are an investment (a linen bundle starts from £237), but in experience, the quality is unmatched. Made in Portugal, Piglet’s bedding is woven from a luxurious blend of European flax linen and long-staple cotton, offering that perfect balance of softness and structure.

Otherwise, Rise & Fall has a great selection of high-quality bedding, including its range of 100% European flax linen sheets. The cotton options are great, too; I’ve had this plush indigo set on and off my bed, and it feels like it belongs in a boutique hotel. 

Back to Dunelm’s linen iterations, the sheets have a decent 4.6-star rating. One shopper said: “The fabric is excellent, it washes beautifully and has become butter soft after three weeks. It breathes well during warmer weather and is very comfortable to sleep under.

“It compares well with the very expensive version of linen bedding I’ve experienced on holiday. The natural colour goes well with my decor too.”

Meanwhile, a second fan chimed in: “Absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth the price. So super soft, with the really expensive linen feel. Beautiful colour too. 10/10.”

However, not everyone is impressed. This 2-star review reads: “I washed the duvet cover, but it doesn’t feel soft. It felt so itchy that we couldn’t use it.”

On a more positive note, a happier Dunelm customer said: “Really, really pleased at the quality of this bedding, washes beautifully. Absolute bargain compared to others on the market, so glad I tried it.”
